The company will redevelop a 1.9-acre site currently used for parking which is bounded by the existing CitySuites site on Chapel Street, the railway line, Greengate and a railway depot. It is proposed that there would be three apartment blocks with 503 apartments in total across the CallisonRTKL-designed scheme at Embankment West.
Block A would be 18 storeys high and contain 147 apartments and Block B would be 16 storeys high and include 209 apartments as well as a ground-floor commercial unit. Block C would be 18 storeys high and serve as a second CitySuites site, providing 147 serviced apartments.
Included within the accommodation mix would be five three-bedroom 'Super Suites' located between the 15th and 18th floors. Residents will benefit from a range of amenities including a residents' lounge, a gym, a library and a swimming pool.
This application envisages a lower density scheme to an earlier proposal to create 694 private rented sector apartments across three buildings rising up to 34 storeys high on the same site. The earlier proposal secured planning consent last year.
Work is scheduled to start in the summer of 2018 following the demolition of the existing viaduct structure, which will begin immediately.
Michele Steel, strategic planning director at Select Property Group, said: "With Embankment 101 and CitySuites now open, the whole Embankment area is really starting to take shape so we're delighted with the decision to enhance the area further and we're looking forward to starting on site."
